"We don't even choose our own names...yet we strive for a lifetime to make one" Isn't it true?!? ... There is an inherent common desire in each one of us to make a name for ourselves...to be successful in our respective fields...for people to attribute our names with immense success...so in order to do that we often build a hierarchy for ourselves and as we cross each stage...we keep adding more and more goals to our hierarchical list...but are we ever content?!? All we want is a fast paced life with all our dreams fulfilled ... Have we ever taken a moment to look around us...to give ourselves a mental rest...we keep putting pressure on ourselves and our minds by asking this one question "What Next?"
...and the people around us are no different..they make sure that you are never on a mental break! ...They give us enough reasons to constantly doubt our capabilities ...to Judge ourselves ...and to put increased pressure on us...
The younger version of me often thought that only a few more years and we would be set free...as we neared our Class 10th Board Examinations(A.k.a Atyachaar Stage 1) ...I was told that if we don't study well enough for these exams ...we wouldn't be allowed to choose our preferred stream...so the fear inculcated in us all made sure that we give up on living our lives and literally the books became our safe haven...And Guess What?!? CBSE Board authorities actually decided to eradicate Class 10th Board exams! WHAT?!? ... Why weren't we fortunate enough?!? Which is why the kids today have both their pockets filled with Good Fortune and Opportunities.... Then comes the Class 12 th Board Exams ( Atyachaar Reloaded ) and Our entire lives depend on the results of these exams...
So Basically for an entire year...all we are spoken to about is HOW IMPORTANT these exams are...not just for us but for our family's status quo as well...Its that Big a Deal in INDIA... So for an entire year Books are literally your best friend...Then comes the day of the announcement of the results...even if the poor kid scores a 90% it's not enough to get him into a decent college...Parents and even the poor chap cry their eyes out after having scored a 90% ... Common ?!? is that even Necessary....let the kids breathe for a little while...No wonder the song " Saari Umra Hum Mar Mar ke Jee Liye...ek Pal to ab Humein Jeene do" from 3 idiots is on every students recently played playlist... Parents take Note ... Stand by your kids ...don't let them make any stupid mistake, help them realize the various opportunities that lie ahead ... And the results of these exams are not the end of the world...Trust me it isn't! ...
Then comes the 3 blissful years of College where you can just Be...No Pressures and a relaxed mindset....No wonder when we are on a nostalgia trip...the college memories are the most stress free and the adults often say...College Years are the best years of ones life...but but but in a blink of an eye Three years and for some four years pass by there is yet another rat race for us to face ... The placements, selecting a good college for the post graduation and etc ... The list goes on and on....even after having completed ones Masters / securing a good job there is always the one question for us to answer " WHAT NEXT" ... Until and unless we give ourselves the mental break required we would never be set free... Relax ...we have all come a long way...crossed too many hurdles and there are still many more to cross ... We still have to figure out the lives for ourselves... So to all my fellow 20 year olds ... We are all in this together... It's not a cakewalk but let's not make it an inclined hill top walk ... Eventually we'd all find our calling... Till then let's just take a Chill Pill " Wink" 😉😉
